Boreal Piraña

Boreal Piraña

Rock eater?

January 10 2007,

After the Joker Velcro a couple of months ago, it was time to look at a high quality climbing shoe signed Boreal. Strangely, just with the new Piraña in your hand you see its quality. Even if it's getting harder and harder took make up your mind on THE climbing shoe to buy, it's once again obvious that the one we present today will please some people but not everybody.

Boreal PiranaDoes it eat everything on its way? It's the question we asked to the person who had the privilege to test them. And as an amateur convinced of the famous American brand with two numbers, the first reflexion of Benjamin Fallet (many 8b+ in his pockets) was Not bad...

Firstly surprised of the foot maintenance of the Boreal shoes, Benjamin assured us the Piraña was very precise. It's because Boreal thinks to the comfort of the climbers: the quilted tongue that closes the shoe is super comfortable but is quite thick. Does it go against performance? Not at all says our tester. The slightly asymmetric shoe has a very aggressive edge witch is very good for small crimps... (We directly think to Freyr). Flat, we could have liked the sole a bit more if it was curved. On the North face of the Merinos it only got the note of 9/10.

Other fact: the Piraña is quite rigid which is bad for the sensations. The shoe doesn't enlarge and with its 465 grams, this is a huge shoe. But, it guaranties an excellent foot maintenance compared to lighter shoes that get deformed at the first torsion.
Concerning the grip, it's signed FS-Quattro. Hard to judge even if it is the number 1 in resistance. Last thing, the hell that was much tested at Omblèze in the Vercors. Fan of overhanging walls, Benjamin tried it in every way and the sculpted shape of the heel is really good.

Real rock eaters in conclusion even if it?s not what you think on first sight?
