It all began 80 years ago, in a small town at the foot of the Dolomites… yet today it sounds like a fairytale. But this really was how it all began: when the first mountaineering boots were hand-made in a small workshop, by an artisan named Narciso Delladio. Generations have since passed, but the factory (now the official headquarters of La Sportiva) can still be found in the same place where the workshop once stood at Valle di Fiemme. Little has changed, except the technical contents of the product which naturally have increased year on year, as the demand for the finest quality mountaineering boots has risen along with the altitude levels reached by La Sportiva customers.
2008 has been a very special year as it has marked a significant milestone - the company’s 80th anniversary. For La Sportiva and its owners this is a truly symbolic and emotional event. On the one hand it has been, and will continue to be, a year in which to celebrate the company’s history of success and innovations over the years, yet it has also been a year in which to lay the foundations for ambitious projects which will be of primary interest in the years to come. As ever, anticipating trends, providing innovative solutions and striving to keep ahead of the times are the challenges that La Sportiva faces daily and remain the very make-up of the company.
This anniversary has been too important not to commemorate with something really “special”, and so they decided to put together a company video, which was officially presented to the trade at the OutDoor Show in Friedrichshafen, Germany. It took almost a year to complete: filming in the valleys, the athletes in action, preparing the set for historical reproductions and shooting the production area in Ziano. It is pitty to have to condense everything into only a few minutes of film, but through that high resolution imagery they have tried to convey the La Sportiva spirit, showing not only how the boots are made but the emotion behind every single phase.
This video represents just a small insight into their work but are 50 seconds of intensive La Sportiva imagery which they hope will convey the core ingredients of our products: innovation and passion.
