Two times gold for Belgium in Edinburgh

Two times gold for Belgium in Edinburgh

The international climbing competition season started this weekend. The Belgians passed the first round with flying colours. Anak Verhoeven and Loïc Timmermans, who recently won the Belgian Lead Championship, were victorious at the first round of the European Youth Cup. For the second time round, the climbing wall of the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena in Ratho proved to be perfectly fitted for our Belgian youngsters. In september 2010, this strong duo won silver at this very same venue.

After a rather slow start, both Anak (B) and Loïc (A) reached the top 5 of their respective category. During the finals however, they took the lead by climbing one hold further than their opponents. It appears that the international climbing competition season will be filled to the brim with excitement and thrills. It promises to be a neck and neck race for the first place.

In total, 10 Belgian climbers took to Scotland, among which Ignace Debreyne who delivered his best performance to date on an international competion. Regretfully, he missed the finals by an inch.

Next round at the start of August in Veliko Tarnovo.
